After two mild falterings last year Spielberg is back in true form with a heartfelt depiction of America's most iconic President. Daniel Day-Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones offer awards worthy performances, with Day-Lewis in particular giving what will become the defining rendition of Abraham Lincoln. He makes every moment of subtlety count, turning the stoic and distant historical figure into a very real and endearing man. Williams' score is simple and touching, subtly manipulating emotion with every scene. Unarguably one of the year's best acted, directed and filmed productions.
