Toys'R'Us Cancels GREEN LANTERN Movie Action Figure Pre-Order

Orders for the Hal Jordan figurine and replica ring, sold exclusively through Toys'R'Us and limited to 2814 pieces, have been refunded due to production problems.

Green Lantern fans and action figure collectors flocked to the Toys'R'Us website last month to pre-order the 4 inch movie-based figurine with numbered Green Lantern symbol stand and wearable movie ring. Over the past week, reports have come in that orders for this item were being canceled, with the explanation given that the set was oversold.

Upon contacting Mattel, the toy manufacturer producing the licensed figure through DC Comics, a bit more clarity was offered for the debacle that has puzzled the plethora of disappointed fans:
"The Green Lantern action figure available from ToysRUs has been recalled due to production concerns. At the present time it does not appear that the item would be able to ship in early February as planned. The demand for this item was much higher than anticipated, but it will become available for purchase at a later time either through online purchase or in stores.
"This hiccup will not affect the production or distribution of other Green Lantern movie toys, including the fourteen action figures based on characters from the film."
Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell, stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins and Angela Bassett. The film is scheduled to hit 2D and 3D theaters June 17th, 2011.

How could they possibly have underestimated the demand for the FREAKING Green Lantern ring???!
Seriously.
Who says- "Hey, let's not make too many of these, I'm not sure anyone is going to want them. It's only the power ring. Maybe no one's heard of GL. Maybe everyone will be so disappointed that it isn't John Stewart, that they won't want the ring at all."
Yeah. I'm sure that's how it went.
Or maybe they're just trying to drive up demand with this little stunt.
