In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.” Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. “The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

That was unexpected.

LMAO. Anthony is gonna be SOOOOO pissed. Laughing out loud Sorry to say though, Hathaway doesn't seem like a fit for Catwoman, but "In Nolan We Trust" so I'll give her a shot. Tom Hardy works as Bane though. He works for anything, even the fracking shark in Jaws. Tongue

i peed not just a little - but i peed everywhere.

Tom Hardy as Bane?

Does this mean we get to see The Bat's back snapped?

This is the greatest news of all time. I don't even care about Catwoman - BANE?!?!

yeah - Hardy as Bane is going to put that character into a slightly different realm than steroid zombie monster Bane from that other attrocious film.....

This is the best news of all time. now everybody go watch BRONSON - The Dark Knight Rises may be one of my most anticipated films of all time now.

Hmmm...
I'm not giving up as Hammster is, but does anyone else have concern that Nolan might be going a tad low brow with this one? He's got Talia Al Ghul, Bane, and Catwoman. Although the clamoring for more clear fight sequences may be sated, many also wanted Bats to showcase more of his detecting skills. With three villians to confront, it doesn't seem that we'll get the opportunity see this.

Just stating a concern...

One and two where to good to give up like the quitter Hammster. ( luv ya Hammy ) Then you throw in Hardy who in the words of Zoolander "Is so hot right now" and you have one excited Bat fan.

Unless he needs to do some detective work to figure out who's behind the rash of burglaries Wink

There is no Talia in this one, dude. At least she hasn't been announced. He's got two villains in this one just like he did in the other two. He's probably sticking with only two villains. I think that this is good. Bane is getting redemption. I hope he sneaks up behind someone and snaps their neck an entire 180 degrees and also breaks Batman's back. I'm still not too thrilled with the title of the film, though.

I personally see this as good news. To me, one of the big things Nolan's Bat-films were missing were a sense of fun. These are two fun (not mindless) characters. I'm excited. Not Keven level excited, but who can be. Tongue

Upup I completely agree with you. In the past, I've compared Nolans Batman to the Godfather. An unblievable film! One of the all time greatest. You marvel at how good it is when you watch it but you don't have "fun" per se, watching the Godfather. It's the one and only missing ingredient in my opinion.

Tom Hardy was the best part of INception, he stole that movie from Leonardo so I have faith in him

Anne Hathaway is miscast as Catwoman. DC strikes out again on a female character

mmmkay.

I love Tom Hardy - I've been a fan of his long before Inception, and although he was great in Inception, and as much of a fan as I am of the guy - he did not steal that movie from DiCaprio. lol.

He probably could have if he had more lines - but he played his part of a supporting role and that's the way his character was written. Leo was front and center in that movie with tons of emotional scenes.

You are wrong Ma'am.

lol Hardy did not steal Inception. Maybe Rock n Rolla, but not Inception good sir.

You shouldn't speak in absolutes, Boy. She, nor the rumors surrounding her involvement hasn't been dismissed either.

if Talia is in this deal - and filming in China leads to speculate she probably will be in there somewhere - doesn't mean she will be a full fledged villain.

Think of the mob boss character in Batman Begins - think of the little sleazebag in Dark Knight wanting to reveal The Bat's secret identity.

You can have behind the scenes villains who pull the strings and not necessarily have to get into a full fledged fist fight.

YES, BANE! This is awesome. I'm so excited! Catwoman not so much but I can deal with that.

Bronson was decent. I know it gets compared to it all the time, but I probably would have liked it more if I had never seen A Clockwork Orange. Too me, it was even more cartoonish than Clockwork. I liked it, though.

I prefer Anne Hathaway in this movie over the other actresses. I'm going to defend her a bit because she's far from her Princess Diaries days. It's tough to say she's miscast because Nolan has his own spin on these characters as seen with Eckhart's "Two-Face" and Ledger's Joker.

You know - I don't get the Clockwork Orange comparisons to Bronson. I understand it with the whole British underground and classical music elements, but the two films don't even compare. The main characters are completely different and the stories - well - come on.

I can see the 'tone' being similar, but Nicholas Winding Refn crafted a very unique film that I don't see being easily compared to any other film out there.

Anne F'ing Hathaway!!! God dammit!! Hopefully she gets hit by a car or something before filming starts. Catwoman should be sexy, not that pile of [crap].

I hope Bane breaks her back.

It is more of a "feel" and "tone" thing than characterization and story. The tone of the films are very similar. The synthesizer and classical scores are of a similar feel, especially in the placement of the music with certain scenes. I'm not for a second saying it's a ripoff. It for sure has it's originality. I don't know why it's seen as such an insult to compare the two. It doesn't mean that it's not a good flick. I've been watching it again between my posts, and it gets better everytime I watch it.

I'm curious to see what they'll do with Tom Hardy as Bane. He's got a pretty thin body frame and even when Bane got off 'Venom' he was still really big.

Hathaway as Catwoman sucks might monkey balls. Grrrr. Still stoked to see Bane!

Hopefully, Nolan knows what he's doing casting Hathaway. She's not the first person I would've considered for Kyle. Confused On the other hand, Chris Evans wasn't the first person people connected to Captain America. Look what happened to him!

yeah Hardy is pretty big. Watch him in Layer Cake and now look at him. It's crazy how he's transformed. He's like a distinguished ass kicker.

Which is EXACTLY what we need in our Bane.

in the statement it just reads Selina Kyle as the character played, not Catwoman, perhaps Nolan isn't planning on introducing the Catwoman until towards the end as he did with Two Face. Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle sounds GREAT, Anne Hathaway as Catwoman sounds VERY INTERESTING.

DeMoNaSsDiZ

Iffy about Hathaway. Hate her movies. Yet look what Nolan did with Ledger. I still have faith. Tom Hardy could break her back. This might not suck mighty monkey balls.

Nolan could also pull something like...putting Bane in a suit and making him the "intellectual superior" to Batman and outwitting him at every turn, instead of a gigantic ass-whooper.

I would have much preffered to see a Man-Bat storyline, where the could have used the appearance of Man-Bat as the scapegoat for the blame Batman took at the end of TDK, and then we get to see Batman use his "detective skills" to figure Man-Bat out, then cure him.

I simply see huge potential in the Man-Bat character, and Bane has been done before...although, so was Joker and look at Ledger's performance there. Brilliant. Hardy's no slouch either.

Not sure about Anne, but if Nolan approves then we got a winner for Catwoman. Hope Anne surprises us.
