The Finnish creators behind one of the most addictive phone games to date have recently announced their plans to expand on the Angry Birds franchise by way of a new TV or web-based series.
In the past few weeks we've learned that PAC-MAN is set to become a reality show on television and Atari's Missile Command will be turned into a feature film. As if that wasn't enough, phone apps are now being licensed for the small screen. Rovio, the Finnish programming company behind the game Angry Birds, will soon be producing an animated series for TV or the Web.
Rovio CEO Mikael Hed (via the New York Post recently stated that the company has at transitioning the property for quite some time and that it is one of his personal "big focus areas right now." When asked whether the recent announcement had to do with last year's plans to create an Angry Birds feature film, Hed conceded. But now the focus is apparently on getting the property developed for TV, "That was the first part of the exercise, and now that we've done that, the next part is to move into production, and that's where we are right now."
The incredibly popular app, available for purchase on most phones, has been downloaded over 50 million times, and features a group of ornery birds, who the user launches via a "rubber" slingshot in an attempt to destroy green pigs who have stolen their eggs.
