Avi Arad Suggests Ties Between THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN & Director Sam Raimi's Three Films

Marvel Executive Producer Avi Arad claims that the upcoming Amazing Spiderman film is not a complete reboot and instead tells a story that could have taken place during events of the first Sam Raimi directed Spiderman franchise

“It's not a comeback. You have to look at it this way: Do you want to know more about The Amazing Spider-Man? This movie is going to tell stories that you didn't see in movies 1, 2, and 3,” said Arad.

He then went on to state that the upcoming film, which stars The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield in the title role, isn’t a complete reboot of the franchise and that the storyline in the movie could have taken place during the context of Sam Raimi’s first Spiderman film.
The Amazing Spiderman is now in production and is being shot entirely in 3D and will be released on July 3, 2012. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the Marvel Entertainment production for Columbia Pictures. The executive producers are Stan Lee, Kevin Feige, and Michael Grillo. The film’s official website is http://www.TheAmazingSpiderMan-movie.com.

either avi arad doesn't know what he's talking about, or EW took this out of context. Gwens the love interest in High School not MJ, Captain Stacey looks 40 years younger then he did in SM3. oh and different costume and web shooters. Studio Execs serious need to stay in touch with the movies there producing or EW should stop taking things out of context

Yeah: Arad can say whatever he wants, there's no way this movie can be inside the other three's continuity.
Also: too bad they're retelling the origins...
