The surprisingly well received superhero origin film from 20th Century FOX has revitalized the X-Men franchise and the studio is quickly moving ahead with another installment.
SuperHeroHype.com reports that Simon Kinberg, a producer on First Class whose past writing credits include X-Men: The Last Stand, Mr. & Mrs Smith (TV series), Jumper, Sherlock Holmes, This Means War and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has been hired to write a script for the film's highly anticipated sequel. Principal cast members James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones and Jennifer Lawrence are already signed on for another installment but there is still no word whether director Matthew Vaughn will return.
X-Men First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.
