Keven's Music Review: HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD – American Tragedy Redux

Remix albums are terrifying. There's always a chance that they can end up pissing off fans who don't want their songs messed with. On very few occasions do I personally find remix records worth the time and effort, but I was shocked to find Hollywood Undead translate very well with 'Redux'. Because these masked madmen are so versatile, their sound transcends extremely well into what are essentially dance tracks.
'American Tragedy Redux' is a nice slice of techno rock, laced with enough sleazy hip hop to induce haters into pooping themselves on impact. Hollywood Undead are two records into their career and because they're already such a cohesive blend of rock and hip hop, a remix album isn't such a shocking departure. They've enlisted some heavy hitters here to cut up their sophomore record, such as Korn frontman Jonathon Davis, Andrew W.K, KMFDM and Borgore to name a few. The remix tracks are lengthy, but they sound absolutely devastating when played loud as hell.
'Levitate', 'Comin in Hot' and 'Apologize' is one nasty ass brilliant 123 way to kick off 'Redux'. It's such a powerful way to begin your listening experience that the rest of the album doesn't quite match up to the first half, especially those first three tracks which are by far my favorite cuts. It's also cool to hear Andrew W.K, KMFDM and Jon Davis put their personal stamps on Hollywood Undead. Each of their respective remixes sound distinctly like they've been induced by those artists' flavors.
If you're a fan of Hollywood Undead, you can breathe easy knowing 'Redux' didn't destroy the songs from 'American Tragedy'. Even if you aren't a fan of the band, I urge you to check out this record if you're a fan of techno music, or whatever the hell kids are calling it these days…Hollywood Undead have managed to blend rock and hip hop without sounding like trend hoes, so it's nice to hear 'American Tragedy Redux' comes off mostly unscathed in the end.
