Universal Pictures has scheduled the film, which also stars Rachel Weisz and Oscar Isaac, for theatrical release in August 2012. The Bourne Legacy is the fourth installation of their popular Bourne film franchise, and the first not to star Matt Damon.
Tony Gilroy, screenwriter for the first three Bourne films, is directing The Bourne Legacy which will not utilize any story elements from Eric Lustbader’s novel of the same name. Rather, it will continue the same time line from the first three films and serve to expand the franchise mythology by focusing on a character other than Jason Bourne (Matt Damon). This character is being portrayed by Jeremy Renner, whose role is said to be an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Jason Bourne.
The Bourne Legacy is directed by Tony Gilroy and stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Oscar Isaac, Stacey Keach, Joan Allen and Albert Finney. Universal Pictures is targeting an August 3rd, 2012 theatrical release for the film.
