It was recently revealed that the bulk of Iron Man 3 production will take place in North Carolina. Scheduled for theatrical release on May 3rd, 2013, Iron Man 3 will be directed by Shane Black based off of a script by Drew Pierce. Robert Downy Jr will once again reprise his role as billionaire industrialist Tony Stark (aka Iron Man); Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle are scheduled to return as Pepper Potts and Jim Rhoades (aka War Machine), respectively.

During a belated red carpet event for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Downey dropped a few details about the tone of the upcoming three-quel and where is could possibly lie in the grand scope of superhero films:

“I think that we have an opportunity with the third Iron Man to make the best of the three, and maybe one of the better superhero movies that’s ever been made.

But I think we have to remember what made the first one good. It was very character-driven. It was very odd. It was kind of outrageous. And so I think we have to have the courage to trust that the audience is really kind of cool, and smart.”
