Guillermo del Toro to direct Emma Watson in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Film

The Harry Potter film franchise starlet and highly in-demand director are teaming up for Beauty, a live-action treatment of the classic fairy tale turned Disney staple.

Warner Bros' Beauty, which was originally to be an adaptation of the novel Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of the Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley, has been in development for a few years. Last summer, Emma Watson -- main actress of the worldwide hit Harry Potter film series -- signed on to play the title character. Watson was recently seen in a supporting role in My Week with Marilyn and will next be featured in The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

It's now been revealed that producer and director extraordinaire Guillermo del Toro has been tapped to direct the upcoming feature, though no filming start or theatrical release dates have been established yet. British screenwriter Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones’ Diary) is working on the script for Beauty; his most recent credit was for last year’s The Three Musketeers.

Recently, del Toro began filming his futuristic monster movie Pacific Rim. Before moving forward with that, he spent close to two years in New Zealand prepping to begin production on the two part film The Hobbit. After departing that project last year, Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson stepped up to the helm. Del Toro is also currently attached to direct Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Frankenstein projects for Universal Pictures.
