Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures have teamed up with Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company to re-imagine the popular film series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which has garnered three live-action film, an animated feature and long running cartoon series over the past two decades.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a team of four anthropomorphic turtles, who were trained by their anthropomorphic rat sensei in the art of ninjutsu and named after four Renaissance artists: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Rafael. They reside in the storm sewers of New York City and battle petty criminals, evil megalomaniacs and alien invaders while remaining isolated from society at large.
Last year, Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol scribes Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec have been hired to pen the reboot's script for Paramount. Michael Bay recently spoke about the project, and offered the first details about it's storyline:
"When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable."
The film is currently slated for theatrical release on December 25th, 2013.
