The former vocalist for Pantera has commented on the possibility of a reunion with metal guitarist Zakk Wylde filling in on guitar for the late Dimebag Darrell Abbott as the May 15th, 20th anniversary release of 'Vulgar Display Of Power' approaches.
While speaking with 98KUPD.com, Phil Anselmo spoke on the slim possibility of reuniting with Pantera members Rex Brown and Vinnie Abbott. After guitarist Dimebag Darrell was murdered on stage years ago, Pantera had already been on hiatus but everything boiled over as Anselmo and Vinnie Abbott's feud led many to believe that the band had passed on along with the late guitarist. Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society has long been rumored to be the only guitarist worthy of replacing Dimebag on stage if Pantera ever reunited and was one of the Dimebag's closest friends. Anselmo commented on Wylde filling that void saying:
"Wishful thinking. And I hate to say that, too. You know, really… I would… Put it this way: my door is always open. I love those guys, I love… Put it this way: I miss that Pantera feel, the feeling of walking out on that stage and performing those songs and having that massive audience just turn into this swirling whirlpool of bodies. That is something that is miss-able, for sure. Believe me, man, if that were a truth, I would tell you, but man, the truth of it all is it’s pretty much wishful thinking at this point."
Anselmo went on to say that the main reunion roadblock is his non-relationship with Vinnie Abbott saying, "I have nothing but love for Vince. I think the media has a whole lot to do with destroying our relationship. Either way, before any of that ever has to happen, Vince and I would have to sit down, hash out whatever problems, whatever demons may exist, and thus far, that day has not come. And, once again, I will say, my door is wide open."
