HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Season Eight Details Revealed

After this week's season seven finale of the hit CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother finally divulged who Barney Stinson will marry, executive producer Craig Thomas has revealed details about the show's highly anticipated next season.
The year is 2030. Ted Mosby is relaying the story of how he met his wife to his daughter and son. The story starts in the year 2005, when then twenty-seven year old architect Ted was spurred on to want to get married after lawyer Marshall Eriksen and kindergarten teacher Lily Aldrin, his best friends from their college days at Wesleyan, got engaged after nine years of dating each other. Ted's new quest in life was much to the dismay of his womanizing friend, Barney Stinson. But soon after Marshall and Lily's engagement, Ted believed that his life mate was going to be news reporter and aspiring news anchor Robin Scherbatsky, who, despite having had a romantic relationship with her after this time, ended up being who the kids know as their "Aunt" Robin. As Ted relays the story to his kids, the constants are that their Uncle Marshall, Aunt Lily, Uncle Barney and Aunt Robin are always in the picture and thus have something to do with how he got together with their mother.
In the final moments of this week's finale episode it was revealed that Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) will be married. Fans of the show know that Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) will meet his yet to be revealed future wife at their wedding, which will finally introduce the mysterious character to the group. Executive producer Craig Thomas recently spoke with TVLine.com about the show's next season and dropped a few hints on what to expect:
WEDDING BELLS WILL RING - “[Barney and Robin's] wedding day is going to be full of enough other surprises. There’s going to be twists and turns built into that day. There’s a lot of fans that think that’s the end of the show – Ted meets the mother [at the wedding], and that’s the [series] finale. There’s a lot of great stories to tell just in that one day. Episode 2 will leap ahead to September, and we’ll see where everybody is four months later.
THE MOTHER’S DAY MAY COME SOONER THAN EXPECTED - “There are people who think it could keep going, and there will be more story after [the wedding day]. For example, “What are Barney and Robin like married? What happens with that marriage?” But for the time being, Thomas says Season 8 will be about the onetime couple’s journey to “not only getting back together, but deciding to take this enormous leap.”
ROBIN WON’T BE PINING - “We’re going to introduce a new love interest for Robin right away. It’s not going to be Barney and Robin together immediately, because they’re too tangled up in other things. … We’ll show you how that [new] relationship ends up leading her back to Barney.”
TED IS ON THE LAST LEG OF HIS JOURNEY - “Ted Mosby [is] closing the last couple doors in his mind that he has to close to really be ready to meet the mother. One of them was Robin, and the other door is Victoria... It is going to lead to the best thing in his life."
A NEW MYSTERY…. - “How do [Marshall and Lily] still go down to the bar and get drunk with their friends? We’re going to see them figuring out what it means to be parents and still try to be great friends.”
How I Met Your Mother stars Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders. The series is narrated through flashbacks from the future, voiced by Bob Saget. Created and executive produced by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas; along with executive producers Pamela Fryman and Rob Greenberg. How I Met Your Mother airs Monday nights on CBS.
