GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Moving Forward with New Writer & 'New Generation' Cast

After years of speculation whether the 80's sci-fi comedy franchise would return to the big screen, Dan Aykroyd has confirmed that a new cast of young stars will team up for the long awaited third installment.
Ghostbusters centers around a group of eccentric New York City parapsychologists who investigate and capture ghosts for a living. After two successful feature films, the franchise expanded into animated series, comic books and novels.
Ghostbusters 3 has been rumored to be in development for many years. While series star Dan Aykroyd has been petitioning for the film to move forward, Bill Murray has been against it with reports saying he wouldn't even read the latest script draft.
However, it now appears that the film is moving forward regardless of Murray's support. Aykroyd recently revealed the first official details about the project:
"We've got a brilliant new writer on it and we'll be passing the torch on to a new generation," Aykroyd said. "We're working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans. I'm confident we'll be in production in the next year. It's sad but we're passing it on to a new generation.
"Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn't seem to be coming and we have to move on. It's time to make the third one."
