Gina Carano Signs on for Lead Role in EXPENDABLES Styled Female Action Film

From indie production house 1984 Private Defense Contractors comes an action-packed project exclusively featuring a cast of hard-hitting female stars, which has now found it's lead actress.

The film hopes to combine the recent lucrative insurgence of female-led action films like The Hunger Games, Snow White and the Huntsman and Haywire with the testosterone-fueled Expendables film franchise. Dutch Southern -- who worked with 1984 Private Defense Contractors recently when the company bought his spec script Hoof Harrington's Greatest Hits -- has been hired to pen the screenplay.

It's now been revealed that Gina Carano, former Mixed Marital Arts competitor and star of Steven Soderberg's Haywire, has signed on to lead the cast. Producer Adi Shankar had this to say about her casting:

"I don't know how I'm supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of 'The Expendables' without Gina Carano in it. It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba."

1984 Private Defense Contractors has co-financed several projects this year including Joe Carnahan's The Grey, Marc Forster's Machine Gun Preacher and the upcoming Brad Pitt vehicle Killing Them Softly.
