Taylor will put his sword and sorcery familiarity to use on the big screen with Marvel Studios as a replacement for Monster director Patty Jenkins in the follow-up to the hit film starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston.
Marvel Studios announced several months ago that Patty Jenkins, who previously directed MONSTER starring Charlize Theron and received an Emmy nomination for directing the pilot of AMC’s acclaimed series The Killing, will direct THOR 2. It was subsequently revealed that Jenkins has exited the project; no explanation outside of "creative differences" was revealed as to why.
Alan Taylor is a go-to TV director for much of HBO's catalog including Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos, Sex and the City, and Six Feet Under. He's also had experience with independent features The Emperor's New Clothes and Kill the Poor. His newly revealed hiring should keep THOR 2 on track to retain it's projected November 15, 2013 release date.
Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman are slated to return to star in the film along with Tom Hiddleston. No official story details have been released though recent rumors point to the inclusion of Amora the Enchantress and Skurge the Executioner as possible villains. In addition to THOR 2, Marvel Studios is currently scheduled to release MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS on May 4, 2012, and IRON MAN 3 which is slated for release on May 3, 2013.
