ADELE Gives The Finger to BRIT AWARDS "Suits" After Acceptance Speech Cut Short
Upon only being allowed to utter a couple lines of speech after being awarded the most prestigious honor of the night, 'Album of The Year', Adele flashed the middle finger while being cut off. The gesture she confirmed later was aimed at executives for ruining her moment.
An audience of 6.2 million viewers watched the 2012 Brit Awards and many saw Adele flip the bird after her acceptance speech was cut extremely short upon receiving the final award of the night - 'Album of The Year'. "I got cut off during my speech and flung the middle finger. But that finger was to the suits at the Brit Awards, not to my fans," said Adele.
Earlier in the broadcast Blur singer Damon Albarn delivered a long-winded acceptance speech that clocked in over two minutes, causing the schedule to run longer. British comedian and actor James Corden hosted the ceremonies and was told by organizers to cut off Adele abruptly during her acceptance speech for the show's final award. Oddly enough, the speech was cut short in order to make way for a show-closing performance by Blur, who were the reason why the show went over to begin with. "I was having the best night of my life and then I was told to cut her off," said Corden. "She's the biggest star in the world and I love her. I don't understand what happened. I'm really upset."
"We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short this evening due to the live show over-running. We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her." - statement from Brit Awards organizers.
"The Brits is a live event. Unfortunately the program was overrunning and we had to move on. We would like to apologize to Adele for the interruption." - statement from U.K. television station ITV.
