MADONNA 'MDNA' Debuts at Number One on Billboard Chart

The pop icon has landed her eighth number one chart topper with her latest record 'MDNA'. Lionel Ritchie's 'Tuskegee' also debuts strong at number two on the Billboard top 200.
Madonna's album 'MDNA' sold 359,000 copies to land at the number one spot (read my review HERE). With this chart topping performance, Madonna is now in second place for the most number one debuts in history with eight. She will need one more to tie Barbra Streisand, who currently owns the most ever at nine. Lionel Ritchie debuted at number two with a country collaborations effort 'Tuskegee' selling 199,000, marking his best debut since 1986.
The surprise is that Madonna did very little to promote 'MDNA' while Ritchie worked very hard, hitting various TV shows. Madonna's newest effort is also her fifth straight number one album, following 2008's 'Hard Candy' (280,000 sold opening week) and it's also her best sales week since 2000's 'Music', which sold 420,000 opening week.
