Jackie Earle Haley Signs on for ROBOCOP; Jay Baruchel May Also Join Cast

Robocop, a remake of the 1987 sci-fi/action film that features a cybernetic law enforcement officer who patrols the streets of Detroit, is currently in production in preparation for theatrical release in 2013.

In a dystopic & crime ridden Detroit, a terminally wounded cop returns to the force as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him. His directives are clear: serve the public trust, protect the innocent and uphold the law. He is Robocop.

Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, Dark Shadows) is the latest addition to the cast of Sony Pictures' upcoming remake. He has signed for the role of Maddox, lead military instructor/trailer to the title character which is being played by Joel Kinnaman (The Killing).
Recent reports also peg Jay Baruchel (Cosmopolis, Goon) as being in contention to play another, yet still undisclosed, main role in the film.
Robocop is being directed by José Padilha (Tropa de Elite/Elite Squad) off a screenplay by Josh Zetumer (Quantum of Solace, The Bourne Legacy) and Nick Schenk (Gran Torino). The film stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Hugh Laurie and Peter Weller and will be released in theaters August 9th, 2013.
