THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO Sequel Still in Development But Will Miss Planned 2013 Release

Columbia Pictures is reportedly still moving forward with The Girl Who Played With Fire, an adaptation of the sequel novel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but confirmation has come down regarding production delays.

Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden’s wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle (Christopher Plummer) continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig), a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed computer prodigy Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara). Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption.

Directed by David Fincher based off a screenplay by Steven Zaillian, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo unfortunately didn't meet projected home office or home release expectations even though it garnered solid praise from critics. A follow up was supposed to be released in December of 2013 but Entertainment Weekly has confirmed rumors that production is delayed. Zaillian is still said to be working on the film's script and, since David Fincher is not signed on to any more films, there is currently no director attached.

Stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are still locked into contract for the sequel, and the studio hopes to have it ready for release in 2014.
