Caprica Returning to SyFy Three Months Sooner
Caprica fans who are quietly twittling their thumbs waiting for the second half of season one won't have to wait much longer for the series' return.
Caprica fans have had no choice but to try and wait patiently for the second half of the Battlestar Galactica prequel to return, originally planned for January. Today, word is Syfy has decided to close the mid season gap of Caprica's first season, changing the return of the Battlestar Galactica prequel to October 5, following the new episodes of Stargate Universe.
Originally, the second half of Caprica's freshman season was supposed to begin in January, which is exactly a year after the series' premiere. Syfy EVP of Original Programming, Mark Stern had this to say on the matter, “Though we initially announced the January return of Caprica, we still had hopes of finding a way to get the series back on the air sooner. We’ve been able to successfully re-work our schedule, and are thrilled to bring the show back during what is traditionally Syfy’s most-watched time of the year. The outcome should also please fans who expressed their wishes for a shorter mid-season hiatus."
The goal in Season 1.5 is to "create situations and dramatic milieu as intense and riveting as what we did on 'Battlestar,'" executive producer David Eick said at Comic-Con.
SyFy revealed what's in store for the remainder of season one:
"The second half of season one will transport us from stunningly vivid, twisted virtual realities to the fascinating outer worlds of the 12 Colonies. Along the way, revolutionary tensions rise, family power shifts and our characters grapple with the physical and emotional consequences of their questionable decisions. As the season races towards its stunning conclusion, each episode lays the groundwork for the inevitable (and brutal) clash between the new Cylon race and its human creators."
Apparently no decision has been made on whether or not the series will return for a second season. The deadline for the decision was extended from the middle of last month to November. Which means that they might be looking very closely at the ratings for the new episodes to see if it's worth it financially. While promoting Season 1.5 at Comic-Con, Caprica Executive Producer David Eick expressed confidence that the series has been a modest ratings performer and will return for a second season.
Caprica returns with the continuation of Season One on Tuesday October 5th @10pm
