THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Movie Said to Have a $220 Million Budget
An actor who has a small role in director Marc Webb's upcoming Spider-Man reboot, which stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, claims the film's budget is a lot larger than earlier reports.
The Amazing Spider-Man, which is now in production and is being shot entirely in 3D, will be released on July 3rd, 2012. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the Marvel Entertainment production for Columbia Pictures.
Australian actor and stuntman Richard Norton recently sat down with Moviehole.com to discuss his role in the upcoming Mad Max film Fury Road where he will appear alongside Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises). During the interview, Norton mentioned his part as a SWAT member in The Amazing Spider-Man, and made a comment about the film's budget:
"I was on-set for four weeks and the experience was just phenomenal… it’s a $220 million budget movie! Vic Armstrong was the second unit director and it was great working with him. Andy Armstrong, his brother, was the stunt coordinator and an old friend. Andy’s the one who brought me onboard so for all those reasons and more it was a lot of fun!"
Last year is was reported that the reboot's budget was in the $80 million range. There's been no corroboration from other members of the cast or crew to indicate whether this recent statement shows a miscalculation in the earlier report or if Sony Pictures has upped the film's budget. If true, this would mark The Amazing Spider-Man as having the largest production price tag of 2012 summer blockbusters.
