Before Marvel Studios unleashes their ensemble superhero film, The Avengers, in 2012, fans around the world will get the opportunity to see two more of the team's heroes star in their own solo films. Thor has already entered the post production process; where the director and crew will spend the next several months editing footage and adding special effects in preparation for the film's May 6th, 2011 theatrical release. The cameras have only recently began rolling for Captain America: The First Avenger throughout scattered UK filming locations. The movie is a period piece set during World War II, with modern day scenes bookending the story, with Chris Evan portraying the title character who becomes the Star Spangled Avenger:

A brave, yet mild-mannered young soldier named Steve Rogers volunteers to undergo a series of experiments for the secretive, US Army Super Soldier Program. The military succeeds in transforming him into a human weapon, but quickly decide that their Super Soldier is far too expensive a creation to risk in combat. They decide to put him to use as an Army celebrity and parade him across Europe USO shows for American troops in an effort to boost morale. He is even given a costume which bears the colors of Old Glory for the stage. When a Nazi plot reveals itself, Rogers must rise up and and become the First Avenger, in order to save his country. Captain America earns his way into the hearts and souls of every American, bringing hope and justice to a war-weary nation. Later, during a mission to Germany to stop his archenemy - The Red Skull, from launching rockets at the allies, Captain America must decide whether to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the world from destruction.

In my opinion: he looks a LOT like Steve, there. Look at those muscles and the hair! ((FYI: I was, already, in favor of him being cast))

I wonder if that's the scene right after Erskine is shot. The hair color works well with Evans. So far, this really does have a Raiders of the Lost Ark feel. Excellent!!! Big Grin

Thank God the whole blond hair thing has finally been put to bed! I thought people were going to lose their minds talking about that all Summer.

So in keeping with the Project Rebirth scene, has he just gotten the serum and grown out of his pants? I hope thats the case, don't remember Steve Rogers wearing capris before.

I agree Bryan, it was just like the Thor and his helmet thing, some people need to take things with a grain of salt, dont kid me wrong on this because I am guilty of this as well, but comic fans really are the most nit picky about details in movies.

THAT is how ripped a superhero should be. THAT is why Tom Welling shouldn't be Superman. Because Captain America would rip his prissy little behind to pieces.

Wow!!! This generation had the best casting decisions I have ever seen in CBMs. Captain America is perfect, Thor is perfect, and Green Lantern is perfect. All I can say is that I'm going to have soo much fun going in the theatres and moving from one auditorium to the next with these films. My money will be well spent:)

Are we sure that's Chris Evans or his stunt double?

I think they should have gone with the booties that were give to the hobbits. Those look...well, gross! LOL
All in all, however, it looks great. Very encouraging. The wisdom of selecting Joe Johnston as director will undoubtedly silence his naysayers.

I wonder how they are going to show Steve's transformation from weakling into peak human (if they do actually show the transformation)?

Will it be somewhat Hulk-style? Hmmm

I was thinking more like the first Spiderman. After Tobey Maguire bulked up (mildly) they made him scrawny with CGI when he took his shirt off after spider bite.

That would probably make more sense on screen. I'm just wondering though because Steve also got taller with much bigger muscles and a ton more bulk, like a smaller scale Hulk. Spider-Man isn't as much of a drastic transformation I'd say. I must admit I don't know how it was portrayed in the original comics.

Consider Andy Serkis of LOTR fame and his portrayal of Gollum/Smeagol. Or Christopher Lee playing Dooku. In the dueling sequences, they super-imposed his face on a stunt double's body. Much of these tricks, if they are wise, is probably what they'll do. I think a much smaller in frame and statured body-double with Evan's face is probably the way to go until the after the transformation. Hopefully they'll alter that too and make it more gaunt.
That's what I'm thinking.
