The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix are in the process of developing four serialized programs leading to a miniseries programming event for Marvel TV (the production company behind Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The series collection will begin with a show focused on comic hero Daredevil, followed by Jessica Jones, then Iron Fist and finally Luke Cage. Marvel's intent is to unfold the series over multiple years on Netflix, bringing viewers deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains located in Hell's Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel's The Defenders mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.
Marvel has now revealed new details about the project, confirming earlier reports that Joss Whedon collaborator Drew Goddard is the production's showrunner:
"We’re proud to officially announce that award-winning writer/director Drew Goddard ("Buffy The Vampire Slayer," "Lost," "Cloverfield," "Cabin in the Woods," "World War Z") will join Marvel’s "Daredevil"! Goddard will write and direct the "Daredevil" first episode, setting the tone and look for the show, while also serving as series Showrunner and Executive Producer for the 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015."
