Disney & Paramount Reach an Agreement Over the INDIANA JONES Film Franchise
Published: December 6, 2013 - 3:49pm
The Walt Disney Studios and Paramount Pictures have finally reached a deal over development, distribution and marketing of the Indiana Jones franchise. These negotiations have been ongoing since Disney purchased LucasFilm from George Lucas nearly two years ago.
In the new arrangement, Disney takes over ownership expenses for any new films and projects. Paramount will retain distribution rights to the current slate of films -- Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull -- which includes releases such asthe individual Blu-rays for the first three films that became available this past November.
At this time there's no word yet if Disney is actively pursuing a fifth installment to the franchise or has other plans in store for the lucrative brand.
Star Harrison Ford has expressed interest in returning as long as the creative team behind the scenes (namely Steven Spielberg and George Lucas) are on board.
